The variant picker and the product gallery

We made the product pictures reachable by keyboard on a narrow screen, so shoppers could scroll through every one. Then we checked the fix once it was live.

Product gallery reachable by keyboard

  • Ready on an unpublished copy
  • Live and checked, September 28, 2026
Larchfold, our own test store, as we checked it by keyboard on October 16, 2026. The picture shows today's theme; we made and checked the fix on the one before.

The product pictures were out of the keyboard's reach

On a narrow screen, the pictures sat in a strip that scrolls sideways. The keyboard couldn't stop anywhere in it, so shoppers who use one went straight past every picture. It's the theme's code, so your developer can change it.

A drawing, since that theme held test products, not real ones. The strip the day we found it, September 24, 2026, then with its ring after the fix.

Two lines, in one file

Now the keyboard can stop on the strip, and a ring shows around it. Screen readers name it Gallery Viewer, the theme's own label.

For your developer

Adds tabindex="0" and an aria-label (the theme's products.product.media.gallery_viewer text) to the scrolling list in snippets/product-media-gallery.liquid.

snippets/product-media-gallery.liquid

  id="Slider-Gallery-{{ section.id }}{{ id_append }}"   class="product__media-list contains-media grid grid--peek list-unstyled slider slider--mobile"   role="list" Added:   tabindex="0" Added:   aria-label="{{ 'products.product.media.gallery_viewer' | t }}" >

On your store, each fix waits on an unpublished copy until you say yes. Then, if you're on Engage, your developer publishes it. On Resolve or Defend, we do.

Checked on the live store

On September 28 we saw the fix live. Same check, no sign of the problem.

Each time our checks finish, an outside service stamps the record with the date. So anyone can see if an entry was changed afterward.

Press play for a short bit of our keyboard check. A computer voice points out three things, and you can read along. Our software recorded this one; on your store, a person signs off every check.
